Who founded Head tennis racquets?

Head was founded in 1950 by the aeronautical engineer Howard Head, as “Head Ski Company”, and you can imagine from the name that at the start the company focused on skiing products:

Howard was ahead of his time and during a time when other companies still preferred wood to metals and plastics, he created the first commercially aluminum laminate skis and the first oversized tennis rackets.

Even today, the US patents for both are still written under his name.

In the late 1960s, Howard Head sold and left the company, and while he got interested in the new tennis brand Prince, not before he made another big division of tennis rackets with aluminum frames.

But the company’s big breakthrough came in the 1970 – some of them creditable to the winning of their ambassador Arthur Ashe on Wimbledon against Jimmy Connors in 1975, the new successful manufactures for ski binding and diving, and for signed the famous champion ski racer Jean-Claude Killy to promote their new ski equipment.

In 1997 they “did it again” and created the first titanium and graphite racket and soon became the biggest tennis racket producer in the world.
