So, it can be tough to decide which one to buy.

In this article, we will take a look at Slazenger tennis rackets and answer the question: are they good?

We will also explore the company’s history and find out what makes their tennis rackets so popular.

Slazenger tennis rackets: Are they good?

Slazenger: Meet the British sports brand

Slazenger is a well-known British sports equipment brand that started as a very small sporting goods shop in 1881-

Which means they are over 140 years old!

Slazenger was started by two young brothers, Ralph and Albert Slazenger, in London, England.

It was a very small shop on Cannon Street in London that sold rubber sporting goods.

But without notice, the shop became bigger and bigger, and in only a few years they started not just to sell but also to manufacture sports equipment for tennis and gold.

Slazenger, like most nonessential manufacturing in the UK during World War II, turned to make a wide range of items for military use as it redirected production to meet demand.

After the war, the small shop was already a very successful brand and company worldwide-

They even got more popular and famous after they became the official tennis ball supplier of The Championships at Wimbledon in 1902- which makes it the longest sporting sponsorship in history.

Who is sponsored by Slazenger?

And if I’m already talking about sponsorship, let’s not forget they have sponsorship many famous sports players during the years, especially cricket and golf players-

Like the legendary cricket player Don Bradman, “The Don”, which is considered the greatest batsman of all time, or Jack Nicklaus, “The Golden Bear”, the greatest golfer of all time.

Even the late actor Sean Connery, which is my favorite Jame Bond actor, by the way, used a Slazenger v-neck jumper in his free time while playing golf and even in iconic scenes in one of the James Bond movies, “Goldfinger” from 1964.

Today, Slazenger offers a wide range of products for sports including cricket, clothing, field hockey, golf, swimming, accessories, and of course tennis.

For tennis, they not just make rackets but also shoes and tennis balls.

Who used Slazenger tennis rackets?

Slazenger has been used by some of the biggest names in the history of tennis over the years – and it’s no wonder after being active since 1881, which is called sometimes “The Gay Nineties” as an American nostalgic term referring to the decade of the 1890s.

So don’t be upset if some of the names are not familiar to you, as I’m sure your grandparents or even great-grandparents will remember them:

For example, the American player William Larned (1872 – 1926) won a US Open title with a Slazenger tennis racket in 1910,

The British tennis player Fred Perry (1909 – 1995) won his first grand slam title with a Slazenger tennis racket in 1932,

In 1953, the former tennis player Ken Rosewall from Australia won the Australian & French Opens with a Slazenger racket.

The Slazenger tennis rackets were popular also with amazing women players like Althea Gibson and Margaret Court.

Althea is one of my favorite historic tennis players – did you know she was the first African American to win a Grand Slam title?

Who owns Slazenger?

Slazenger is owned by the Frasers Group, which are the “Sports Direct” since 2004.

Notice that they are also owned other sports brands and tennis rackets brands like Dunlop and Donnay.

Is Slazenger a good brand?

I think Slazenger is a very good brand, especially if you’re looking for affordable and quality products.

They have been in the business for a very long time and they know what they’re doing.

And even though they might not be the best at everything, they are still a very good choice overall.

What are people saying about Slazenger tennis rackets?

The main problem with them is that I, as a tennis player, see them much more than a golf brand-

And I asked my tennis friends as well while writing this article, to see what they will say, and they all told me the same thing:

They see Slazenger as an “all sports equipment” brand that focuses more on golf and cricket products than tennis rackets.

One friend even asked me if Slazenger and Puma are the same because of their logo!

So if you also play golf – I would recommend you buy Slazenger products without thinking even once, but let’s not forget my website is on tennis rackets, so you should consider it very well.

Is Slazenger a good tennis racket?

I’m sure you’re wondering now if Slazenger is a good tennis racket to buy in 2022.

The answer, unfortunately, is not that simple as it depends on what are your needs and preferences as a player.

But I can say that they offer very good quality products for different types of players and levels- from beginner to professional.

And their prices are also affordable compared to other similar brands like Wilson or Head.

I used to have some of their rackets (I have a big collection of tennis rackets) and I think their rackets don’t have high-tech carbon composites, and not even specialized sounding technologies.

They do have good tennis rackets, but I think their main problem is that they are a brand that does so many things and products for not just tennis-

And they really can’t compete in the high-end of the market without having a specialized racket for that.

But overall, I think they are good tennis rackets and you really can’t go wrong with them.

In conclusion

Slazenger is a good brand with over a hundred years of experience in the sports industry.

They make quality products for different types of players, and their prices are very affordable when compared to other brands.

While they might not have the best rackets on the market, they offer good value for your money and should be considered when looking to buy a new tennis racket.

Are Slazenger tennis rackets good? In short, yes – they offer good quality products for different types of players, from beginner to professional, and their prices are very affordable.

However, they might not have the best rackets on the market compared to other tennis racket brands.

About Me

Hi! I’m Matt Olsen, and I’ve been playing tennis for over 10 years. Tennis is my life!

My favorite part about being a professional tennis player? Playing the game. My least favorite part of this job? Sitting on the bench after having to retire from a match because of an injury (it’s still fun watching the teammates play, though!).

One secret that helps me keep up with all my training? Choosing the best tennis racket that suits me. In fact, it’s one of the reasons why I started this site Tennis on Flame, where I help people find their perfect racket!
