The man who did this was Gunter Parche and he confessed that he committed the crime because “he wanted to help German women’s tennis.”
Seles needed two surgeries but made it through with her life intact.
The stabbing caused her to miss the rest of the 1993 season and all of the 1994 season.
She made a triumphant return in 1995 but never regained her world No. 1 again, which she was on March 11, 1991.
